Series 15

Woodlands Strykers (9-19) vs. Acadiana Cane Cutters (12-16)

Tuesday July 2, 2013 - 7:00 PM

Wednesday July 3, 2013 - 7:00 PM

The Cane Cutters are on their way home now following a heartbreaking two-game road series against the Victoria Generals. Acadiana lost both games, one in extra innings, by just one run each to the Texas Collegiate League’s second place team. Now the Cane Cutters will look to rebound against the Woodlands Strykers, who are traveling to Fabacher Field after finding themselves on the wrong end of a two-game sweep against the Brazos Valley Bombers, losing their first game on Saturday 15-5, and then again on Sunday 4-1. As both teams are coming off of losses, both will be pressing to turn things around.

Acadiana nearly made the Texas Collegiate League standings very interesting during their stay in Victoria over the weekend. On Saturday, the Cane Cutters and Generals each scored a run in the first inning before the Cane Cutters took the lead in the 5th inning. The Generals followed that up by scoring runs in the 6th and 7th, grabbing the lead for good by the final score of 3-2. Catcher Mitchell Nau had the Cane Cutters’ only RBI in the game, his 9th on the season. Sunday night’s game was a bit tougher to stomach. The Cane Cutters and Generals went into extra innings tied at ones, but Victoria was able to break the tie during the bottom of the 11th inning, walking off with the win. Infielder Nick Dawson had Acadiana’s only RBI during the game, coming on a single that tied the game at 1. Dawson did have a big week this week, knocking in 4 RBIs for the Cane Cutters. Leadoff hitter Jace Statum had a strong week as well, as he too had 4 RBIs and got on base exceptionally well. Expect for them to continue their production while the others are primed to break out.

The Woodlands Strykers had a formidable weekend draw at home against the Texas Collegiate League’s leading team, the Brazos Valley Bombers. Saturday’s game ended with 15-5 rout after the Bombers racked up 3 home runs against Strykers’ pitching. Three different Bombers’ players had 3 RBIs in the game, as Strykers’ pitchers Hibbs and Cosart gave allowed the bulk of the Bombers' runs. The Strykers rallied in the 8th, scoring 4 runs, but obviously fell well short of making the game interesting. Sunday’s game was much more bearable as the Bombers scored 4 runs to the Strykers’ 1 run, but the result ultimiately remained the same. Strykers’ losing pitcher Roy gave up just one earned run through five innings, a solid performance against the hot Bombers’ bats. Watch for Strykers’ bats to wake up in Fabacher Field, though we hope it won’t be enough for them to beat the home team.
