The streaking Cane Cutters welcome the Woodlands Strykers to Fabacher Field for the first series after the All-Star break.

After a long stint away from their home field, Acadiana will finally return to action at Fabacher on Thursday night following the All-Star Break. The Cane Cutters will play host to the Woodlands Strykers Thursday and Friday for their fourth head-to-head series on the season. The Cutters’ last meeting with the Woodlands Strykers was a bit one-sided as the streaking Cane Cutters swept both games from Woodlands to push their win streak to 6 games just before the All-Star intermission. Acadiana won both games at a tally of 9-5. The Canes are now in second place in the TCL behind the Brazos Valley Bombers, and will look to add another win to their win streak tonight.

The Cane Cutters were well represented at the TCL All-Star Game, sending six players to the big game. Those six, catcher Mitchell Nau and shortstop Logan Taylor from Texas A&M, Kyle Cedotal and John Gremillion from Southeastern, Jake Winston from Southern Miss, and Justin Sinibaldi from Nicholls State, will look to make as big an impact in the second half of the season. In their last series against Woodlands, several Cane Cutters stepped up with big performances for the team. Logan Taylor, an All-Star and last week’s Warstic Player of the Week, went 5-8 in the series, driving in 1 run and scoring 4 while swiping 4 bases. Connor Barron had a big series as well, going 5-7, while adding a couple walks and a home run to his totals. Nick Dawson and All-Star Kyle Cedotal each had 3 hits and scored 2 runs for Acadiana during the series. Pitchers Jake Winston and Ryan Deemes also played tremendously. Ryan Deemes, the Cutters’ closer, pitched 2 innings during the series, striking out 4 Strykers to earn his 5th save on the season. Deems' 5 saves tied the current team record held by former Cane Cutter Joshua Burris.

The Woodlands Strykers, whose All-Star players performed for the victorious East Team with fellow easterners from Acadiana, have been on a tough stretch as of late, losing their last 9 games, come in to Fabacher Field for the second time this season. All-Stars Ricardo Sanchez and Connor Fikes will look to get their guys back on track and get back to their winning ways. During the last series with Acadiana, Sanchez had hits in two at bats in the one game he played, scoring twice and adding a double to his team’s ledger. Fikes had a solid series, going 3-9 with a walk. Pitchers Thompson and Stubblefield had clean outings on the mound for the Strykers, combing for a scoreless 2 2/3 innings while striking out 3.
