The Cane Cutters are back at the Faub Tuesday and Wednesday nights for another two-game set against the Victoria Generals. Acadiana is still rolling in the second-half, coming off of a two game sweep of the Texas Marshals last weekend. The sweep improved the Cane Cutters’ record to 11-3 for the second half and 25-19 on the summer as a whole. Acadiana remains in second place behind red-hot Brazos Valley, who trails Acadiana in the second half standings with a 9-5 record. Victoria enters the series coming off of a 1-1 series split against the East Texas Pump Jacks, winning the first game 12-2 and dropping the second 3-8. Victoria’s record stands at 22-21 on the season as we enter the latter half of July. Cane Cutters fans can expect to see more fireworks in this series, as Victoria has played Acadiana close in each of their 8 games to this point in the season. The Cutters however have won 5 of the 8. Hurlers Jake Winston and Justin Sinibaldi are most likely to take the bump tonight and tomorrow night.

Acadiana played hard this weekend, grinding out 2 wins over the Texas Marshals, winning each game by just one run apiece. The Marshals forced the Cane Cutters to win both games in the late innings, as their attack at the plate stepped up in the clutch when the games came down to the wire. In the first game, the Cane Cutters trailed 2-4 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning before Connor Barron hit his record-breaking 5th home run in two weeks, a 3-run blast that gave Acadiana the win in walk-off fashion. The Marshals would make Sunday’s game interesting as well, as they took a the lead during their 3-run 7th inning before the Cane Cutters answered with runs of their own in the 7th, pushing the eventual final score to 7-6. Catcher Mitchell Nau had a big series, going 4-for-9 with 4 RBIs, lifting his RBI total to 21 on the season. Cal State Bakersfield’s Jordie Hein also performed well, going 4-for-7 with a double, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. Texas A&M’s Jace Statum went 2-for-6 from the dish, smacking a double, scoring 2 runs, and walking 4 times. Relievers John Gremillion and Taylor Nunez each earned a win in their appearances.

The Generals haven’t quite been able to continue their first half success so far into the second half, winning only 5 of their last 13. Tuesday’s game will mark their 3rd straight series away from home, as they have reached a tough stretch of their calendar. Outfielder Frank Cloutier, third baseman J.D. Stinnett, and shortstop Alvaro Rondon each had 3 hits for the Generals during their last series at East Texas. Victoria put together 15 hits in all for both games, scoring 15 runs in the process. Hayden Vesely added 2 hits of his own, driving in 3 runs and patiently earning 3 free passes. Pitcher Chase Angelle threw well for Victoria and earned the win after going 6 innings and giving up just 1 run on the hill during the first game of the series.
