Louisiana’s premiere summer collegiate league baseball team will continue their 6-game homestand with a two game series against the Victoria Generals beginning at 7:00 PM Tuesday night at Fabacher Field. The set will be the final series the Acadiana Cane Cutters play against the Generals in the regular season. Acadiana enters the series with a 14-6 second half record, leading the Texas Collegiate League standings by 1 game over the Brazos Valley Bombers. The Cane Cutters are coming off of a 1-1 doubleheader series split with the Woodlands Strykers, while the Generals finished a 1-1 series split of their own with the Texas Marshals. Victoria will look to strengthen their record going into the playoffs, as the Generals earned an automatic berth into the postseason by virtue of their finish in the TCL first half standings. Acadiana will continue to push for their playoff spot after a strong 2nd half has put them in the playoff conversation.

Acadiana took on the Generals Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, winning both games in the series, winning 4-0 and 7-1. The Cane Cutters were in the midst of a dominant stretch, winning 13 of their first 16 second half games. Acadiana won the first contest behind the arm of Jake Winston, who pitched 8 innings of shutout ball, giving up just 5 hits and striking out 7 batters en route to earning his 6th win of the season. Starting pitcher Justin Sinibaldi won the second game of the series, going 7 innings, giving up just 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 4. Despite the dominate pitching, the series was centered around Acadiana’s bats. The Cutters scored 11 totals runs in both games on 25 hits, hitting at a .385 clip over the two games. Connor Barron had perhaps the biggest impact for Acadiana at the plate, going 5-for-9 in the series with a double and 4 RBIs. Mitchell Nau blasted a home run as one of his 3 hits, driving in 2 and scoring twice as well. Logan Taylor amassed 4 hits in the series adding 2 runs, while Sciambra and Pugh each had 3 hits of their own. Acadiana will look to match their production in tonight’s upcoming series.

Victoria did not fare quite as well as the Cane Cutters, only mustering 12 hits and a grand total of 1 run in the series last week. Trey Wall pitched well in the first game, going 7 strong innings while allowing just 2 runs on 8 hits. Without any run support he was saddled with the loss. J.D. Arrowood had the best performance for the Generals at the plate with 3 hits in 7 trips. Romeo Cortina added a pair of knocks and 2 stolen bases. The Generals are hoping for a better turn out this time around at Fabacher Field.
