Victoria Takes Two From Acadiana

07/31/2013 5:41 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters closed their two-part series with the Victoria Generals on Coke Wednesday at Fabacher Field.

The Acadiana Cane Cutters hosted the Victoria Generals Wednesday night for the series finale in their short two-game series. Looking to rebound from last night’s late-inning slugfest that resulted in the an 8-5 loss for the home team, the Cane Cutters had their eyes fixed on maintaining their slim Texas Collegiate League lead as the calendar flipped to August.

After a pair of scoreless frames from both starters, Zac Vasek of the Generals and Ryan Deemes for the Cutters, each team broke through with a single scratch in the third. Victoria would later hop on the lead in the fifth when designated hitter Jordan Camel belted a two-run triple that chased home both Alvaro Rondon and Romeo Cortina. The contest went on cruise control until the eighth when the Canes forced the issue with a double steal that resulted in a error by catcher Aaron Morgan, eventually scoring Blake Brom second. Down a run in the ninth, the Cutters would get a leadoff single from Aggie shortstop Logan Taylor, but could not figure out how to get one across to extend the game. Victoria relief pitcher Juan Cortina would seal the save and shut the door on a 3-2 Generals victory.

The Cutters will be back at Fabacher tomorrow night to square off against the perennial TCL force Brazos Valley Bombers for a 7:00 PM first pitch. Tomorrow is the final Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark. Bud and Bud Light are just $1 all night long as Acadiana looks to power their way into the 2013 postseason.
