The Acadiana Cane Cutters wrapped up their 2013 regular season home schedule against the East Texas Pump Jacks on Fan Appreciation Shirt Off the Back Night presented by C&G Boats. The Cutters, having already taken game one from the ‘Jacks, looked to earn the series sweep and extend their modest three-game win streak to four on Wednesday night.

Cane Cutters’ starter Paul Carpenter and Pump Jacks’ hurler Jordan Price dueled with matching zeroes through the first two innings until East Texas broke through in the third inning courtesy of a string of Acadiana defensive miscues to take a 3-0 lead. The ‘Jacks would go on to add two more in the fourth on a pair of bases loaded walks.

The offense finally broke through for Acadiana to the tune of one run in the bottom of the fourth but they soon found themselves down 6-1 after six compete. Acadiana put up a crooked number in the bottom of seventh when who else but catcher Mitchell Nau came through with a 2-RBI double that put the home team back within striking distance, 7-3. The Cane Cutters would go on to load the bases in the eighth, but were only able to plate one, then threaten again in the ninth, yet were turned away from the win, falling to the East Texas Pump Jacks 7-5.

The team will now travel to Brazos Valley to face the Bombers for what could preview a potential Texas Collegiate League Title bout. The Canes have already locked in the third seed of the postseason tournament and will face the Victoria Generals in Victoria for round one on Saturday night.
