CANE CUTTERS SIGN TWO FROM ARIZONA JUCO

03/26/2014 3:10 PM -
In his continuing effort to build a championship team, Cane Cutters coach Lonny Landry has announced that he has tapped the Arizona desert to get his two most recent players: infielder Wyatt Pattyson and outfielder James Ziegler, who are both out of Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona.

Pattyson, a freshman from San Tan Valley, AZ, has appeared in 24 games for the Coyotes where he has 9 RBI’s and scored 11 runs. Ziegler is a freshman from Chandler, AZ who has played in 25 games. He has a .326 batting average and leads the team with 23 RBI’s.

“These players come highly recommended to us,” Landry said. “(Chandler Gilbert assistant) Coach (Ben) Taylor is very familiar with the TCL, from having coached East Texas. It makes us feel like we are doing something right with our program, in that he would be so instrumental in bringing us these two players for the summer.”

Cane Cutters GM Bill Levy explained how local baseball fans might enjoy having these players in Lafayette for the summer.

“This (the signings) shows how special collegiate summer baseball is,” Levy said. “There are great players from other states that our fan base may not be familiar with. As they get situated here, and become part of our community, they may form a life-long bond with our fan base that could only be started by something like summer collegiate baseball.”

The Cane Cutters will open their fourth season on Thursday, May 29th when they host the Brazos Valley Bombers at Fabacher Field in what will be the first part of an “Opening Weekend.” The Cane Cutters are part of the six-team Texas Collegiate League that features some of the Nation’s top college prospects.
