TEURLINGS ALUM SET TO PLAY FOR CANE CUTTERS THIS YEAR

04/01/2014 2:00 PM -
The Acadiana Cane Cutters are delighted to announce that Southeastern Louisiana University infielder, Kennon Menard, a 2013 Teurlings graduate, has agreed to play for the Cane Cutters this summer. Also committing is his Southeastern teammate Scott Szush, a freshman pitcher from Thibodeaux, LA.

Menard, who has played in 13 games for the Lions, enjoyed a storied career at Teurlings where he hit .474 for the Rebels his senior year and was selected as a Rawlings All-American (honorable mention). He was also a key part of Teurling’s 2012 state championship.

“These are quality signings for a couple of reasons,” Cane Cutters Head Coach Lonny Landry said. “It is great to get a couple of players from such a quality school. We also obviously have followed Kennon very closely. It is nice to be able to have some players on our team that are fans have a familiarity with right away.”

Menard joins university of Alabama infielder and former Acadiana High School star Chance Vincent as the local players on the roster.

Cane Cutters GM Bill Levy acknowledged the significance of the signings.

“Our roster is coming together nicely,” he said. “While it is great to get players from different places throughout country, it is nice to know that the local players are so eager to return home and play with us. That means we are doing something right. That means we have a stellar reputation in the community. We are delighted in that our fans that followed them before will be able to reconnect with them at Fabacher Field.”

The Cane Cutters will open their fourth season on Thursday, May 29th when they host the Brazos Valley Bombers at Fabacher Field in what will be the first part of an “Opening Weekend.” The Cane Cutters are part of the six-team Texas Collegiate League that features some of the Nation’s top college prospects.
