CANE CUTTERS SIGN WESTERN KENTUCKY BATTERY

04/16/2014 8:03 AM -
With opening day under 50 days away, Cane Cutters coach Lonny Landry helped solidify the middle of the diamond, with the signings of Western Kentucky University (WKU) pitcher Cody Coll and his college teammate; catcher Hunter Wood. The Hilltoppers (19-17) compete in the highly regarded NCAA Division 1 Sun Belt Conference.

Coll, a 6’3” freshman from Naperville, IL, has appeared in four games for WKU. Wood, a 6’1” freshman catcher from Mount Washington, KY, has appeared in 19 games, starting nine of them. He currently has a 1.000 fielding percentage.

“They play for a great program in a great conference,” Landry said. “Being freshmen, the experience that they have gotten in that type of pressure situation will only help them as their baseball careers develop. I think we are going to reap the benefits of that come this summer.”

The Cane Cutters will open their fourth season on Thursday, May 29th when they host the Brazos Valley Bombers at Fabacher Field in what will be the first part of an “Opening Weekend.”  Last year, the bombers went 49-15 in capturing the mythical National Championship and #1 ranking in all of summer collegiate baseball by Perfect Game. The Cane Cutters and Bombers are part of the six-team Texas Collegiate League that features some of the Nation’s top college prospects. Season tickets are now available. Call (337) 451-6582.
