CANE CUTTERS SIGN TWO FROM SEC SCHOOLS

04/24/2014 1:51 PM -

Acadiana Cane Cutters head coach Lonny Landry has announced today that the team has signed a pair of players from the highly respected SEC: outfielder Jonathan Moroney of Texas A&M and infielder Daniel Cucjen of the University of Alabama. The move is expected to strengthen an already talented roster.

Moroney, a 6’3” sophomore from Houston, TX, has appeared in 26 games for the Aggies. He is batting .305 and has 12 RBI’s with a .458 slugging percentage.

Cucjen, a sophomore from Shreveport, LA, joins fellow Crimson Tide Teammates Chance Vincent, Matthew Goodson and Jonathon Hess on the Cane Cutters roster. So far this season, Cucjen is hitting .281 and has appeared in 22 games for Alabama. The #17 ranked Crimson Tide is currently (28-13) and on top of the SEC’s West Division with a 12-6 conference record.

“To see the quality of talent this league is getting is very exciting,” said Cane Cutters coach Lonny Landry. “At the end of the day, we want to be right up there among the top teams of the TCL. These signings show that we are committed to make that step.”

With the Brazos Valley Bombers earning the number #1 ranking in all of collegiate summer baseball last year, Cane Cutters GM Bill Levy thinks the talent in the TCL will be even better this year.

“This league has always been an attraction for top collegiate talent,” he said. “With the year that the (Brazos Valley) Bombers had last year, and with the great recruiting period that all of the TCL teams have had, this year is shaping up to be even better. Fans are virtually assured of seeing some of the top collegiate players on a nightly basis. Our fans are very astute. They will appreciate that.”

The Cane Cutters will open their fourth season on Thursday, May 29th when they host the Brazos Valley Bombers at Fabacher Field in what will be the first part of an “Opening Weekend.”  Last year, the bombers went 49-15 in capturing the mythical National Championship and #1 ranking in all of summer collegiate baseball by Perfect Game. The Cane Cutters and Bombers are part of the six-team Texas Collegiate League that features some of the Nation’s top college prospects. Season tickets are now available. Call(337) 451-6582.
