CANE CUTTERS DROP FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON TO BRAZOS VALLEY BOMBERS

 The Acadiana Cane Cutters opened their 2014 season on Thursday night and lost a tight game to the Bombers 5-4. After a day full of rain, the grounds crew did a great job in getting the field ready for the game.

 

The Bombers started out the game hot and scored 2 of their 5 runs in the first innings. The Cane Cutters answered with 3 in the 3rd to put them in the lead. The Bombers came back the next innings and scored their final 3 runs of the game. The Cane Cutters made a late push with one in the 5th, but could not tack on any more runs after that.

 

 Jake Winston started the game for the Cane Cutters throwing 4 innings, giving up 4 runs, and picking up 4 strikeouts. He was relieved by Ryan May who completed 4 innings and kept the Cane Cutters in the game. May had 2 strikeouts and did not give up a run. Nick Johnson closed out the game with a perfect frame.

 

At the plate for Acadiana, Trent Giambrone had the big hit in the 3rd with a 2 RBI single. Taylor Walker also had a big RBI double in the fifth which scored James Ziegler.

 

For the Bombers, G.R. Hinsley was the star at the plate going 1-4 with 2 RBIs. Matt Blackham showed strong stuff out of the pen picking up 7 strikeouts in 3 innings.

 

Icezack Flemming was the winning pitcher for the Bombers and there record is now 1-0. Jake Winston was the losing pitcher and Acadiana Cane Cutters are now 0-1.

 

The Cane Cutters will continue their series against the Brazos Valley Bombers on Friday, May 30th at Fabacher Field. It will be the first C&G Boats post game “Friday Fireworks” of the year.
