CANE CUTTERS BREAK IN THE WIN COLUMN

The Acadiana Cane Cutters earned their first win of the season Saturday night by beating the East Texas Pump Jacks 5-4.

 

The Pump Jacks got on the board early scoring one in the first off of Cane Cutter starter Cody Coll. Acadiana answered with one in the 3rd to tie the game up. East Texas took back the lead in the 4th and added another in the fifth to make it 3-1. The Cane Cutters got one back in the bottom of the fifth bringing the score to 3-2. A big 7th inning put Acadiana up 5-3 and they would keep the lead from then on.

 

Cody Coll of Western Kentucky University started on the mound for Acadiana going 5 innings and giving up 3 runs. He was relieved by Alec Sanchez who threw 3 shutout innings with 3 strikeouts. Nick Johnson came in to earn the save in the 9th.

 

At the plate for Acadiana, Taylor Walker had big day by going 2-4 with 3 RBI’s. Connor Barron impressed in his first game of the season by going 2-4 with a run scored. Justin Holt also contributed with 2 hits and 2 runs scored.  

 

For the Pump Jacks, Connor Hornsby and Chris Osborne each had 2 hits. Starting pitcher Tanner Cable threw 5 innings giving up just one earned run while picking up 8 strikeouts.

 

Alec Sanchez got the win tonight for the Cane Cutters while Nick Johnson earned the save. The Cane Cutters are now 1-2. Jeremy Hallonquist got the loss for the Pump Jacks and they are now 1-2.

 

The Cane Cutters will finish their series against the East Texas Pump Jacks on Sunday, June 1st at Fabacher Field. Game time is scheduled for 7 PM.
