CANE CUTTERS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER

The Acadiana Cane Cutters won both games of Thursday night’s doubleheader against the East Texas Pump Jacks.\\

Game one: The Cane Cutters scored the first run of the first game on a Connor Barron (Southern Mississippi) solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Cane Cutters scored again in the 4th inning to increase the lead to 2-0. The Pump Jacks began their rally in the 5th inning when they scored one, and then added 3 in the 6th. Acadiana was able to score 4 in the bottom of the 6th inning to regain the lead, and held on to win 6-4.

Alec Sanchez (Texas State University) picked up the win in relief. Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) closed the game, pitching a scoreless 7th.

 

Game two: The Cane Cutters again got off to an early start, scoring once in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Pump Jacks evened the score in the 3rd. Both teams added a run in the 5th to tie the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the 7th inning, Trent Giambrone (Jones County Community College) reached base on a lead-off walk, moved to second base on a Hunter Wood (Western Kentucky) sacrifice bunt, and scored to win the game when the Pump Jacks’ pitcher Marshall Kasowski overthrew first base on a Jalen Haskin (Pearl River Community College) bunt.

 

Cane Cutters’ reliever Cole Butler picked up the win.

 

The Cane Cutters will finish the series Friday night against the East Texas Pump Jacks. Friday night is Star Wars night benefiting The Children’s Museum at Fabacher Field and there will be postgame fireworks courtesy of C&G Boats.
