CANE CUTTERS GET BACK ON THE WINNING TRACK06/09/2014 9:14 AM - The Acadiana Cane Cutters defeated the Woodlands Strykers 10-6 in the final game of their weekend series.
The Strykers struck first with 3 runs in the top of the 3rd innings. The Cane Cutters answered in a big way by scoring 7 runs in the bottom half of the innings as the Stykers pitching staff struggled throwing strikes.. Woodlands got 2 back in the top of the 7th bringing the score to 7-5. Acadiana answered once again in the bottom half of the inning with a run after a big double from third baseman Trey Hicks (Texas State). The Strykers got one in the 7th and 2 in the 8th, but the Cane Cutters already had the game in hand and the final score was 10-6.
The Cane Cutter offense had its best day of the season on Sunday night with contributions from up and down the lineup. Kennon Menard (Southeastern) had great day on offense going 3-5 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Connor Barron (Southern Miss) also had an impressive day going 2-5 with 2 big RBIs and a run scored.
Cooper Jones (Southern Miss) started on the mound for the Cane Cutters throwing 3 innings and giving up 3 runs. He did strike out 4 Strykers on the night. Jones was relieved by Ryan May (LSU) who looked solid in his 5 innings of work. He gave up 3 runs while striking out 5 batters. Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) came in to close out the game throwing one perfect inning.
Mark Whitehead was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and a walk for the Strykers. Matt Sanchez was 1-3 with 2 runs scored.
Cooper Jones got the win for the Cane Cutters while Scott Ashford picked up the save. The Acadiana Cane Cutters are now 6-4. Kael Jones got the loss for the Strykers. The Woodlands Strykers are now 3-6.
The Cane Cutters will play a double header on the road against the Texas Marshals on Wendesday. They will then travel to play the East Texas Pump Jacks on Thursday for a two game series. You can watch those games online at www.Ustream.tv/channel/
