06/14/2014 10:04 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters got back on the winning track to celebrate Military Appreciation Night at Fabacher Field after beating the Texas Marshals 3-1.

It was a record crowd of 533 in attendance for the Cane Cutters to celebrate veterans and active servicemen.

The Cane Cutters got off to an early start when Taylor Walker (Jackson State Community College) scored Connor Barron (Southern Mississippi) from 3rd base on a sacrifice fly. Walker drove Barron in again in the 3rd inning on a groundout to give Acadiana a 2-0 advantage. The Marshals responded in the 5th inning with their only run of the game. In the bottom of the 8th inning, James Ziegler (Chandler-Gilbert Community College) hit a sacrifice fly to score Justin Holt (Nicholls State) who was the pinch runner for Walker following his stand up double to left field for the game’s final tally.

Jake Brumfield (Pearl River Junior College) picked up his first win of the season with a brilliant performance, turning in 5 innings of one run ball and striking out 5 batters. Colton Lee (Pearl River Junior College) came in to pitch 3 scoreless innings in relief, and Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) recorded the final 3 outs of the game to record his 3rd save of the season.

With the victory, the Cane Cutters improve to 10-5 on the year. Acadiana hosts the Texas Marshals again Sunday evening on Father’s Day.
