CANE CUTTERS LOSE PITCHER’S DUAL, MOVE TO 13-606/21/2014 9:37 AM - The Acadiana Cane Cutters lost to the East Texas Pump Jacks on Friday night 2-1 to complete their 4 game road trip.
The game was a pitcher’s dual as there were only 3 runs scored in the entire game. The Pump Jacks got the scoring going early putting up one run in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Cane Cutters answered in the top of the 2nd when Trey Hicks (Texas State) had an RBI single that drove in Chance Vincent (Alabama). With the score 1-1, East Texas took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd after Anthony Gonsolin crossed home on a passed ball and that was all they needed. The score stayed at 2-1 for the next 6 innings.
Jake Winston (Southern Miss) started on the mound for the Cane Cutters going 5.1 innings while giving up 2 run and 3 hits. He did strikeout 5 Pump Jack batters throughout the course of the game. Scott Szush (Southeastern) came in to finish off the 6th inning and struck out 2. He ended the night throwing 2.2 shutout innings while striking out 4.
Leadoff hitter Connor Barron (Southern Miss) had a good game going 2-4 at the plate for the Cane Cutters. Trey Hicks had a hit and the only RBI of the night.
Jake Winston got the loss for the Cane Cutters. Jeremy Hallonquist got the win for the Pump Jacks and Kyle Garvin got the save.
The Acadiana Cane Cutters are now 13-6 and only 1.5 games out of first place. The next opponent, the Victoria Generals, are a half game ahead in the standings.
The Cane Cutters return home on Saturday, June 21 for one of the signature promotions on the year, the “Diamond Dig” presented by Paul’s Jewelry. At 6:30 forty fans will have the chance to “dig” up the infield for a chance to win a beautiful diamond necklace courtesy of Paul’s Jewelry. On Sunday, Eddy, the Cane Cutters mascot, will celebrate his fourth birthday. There will be guest appearances by mascots from local schools and businesses as well.
