CANE CUTTERS END TOUGH ROAD TRIP

 The Acadiana Cane Cutters lost both games of the doubleheader to the Woodlands Strykers last night. Game one ended with a score of 6-2 while the game two score was 7-5.

 

The Woodlands Strykers started the scoring in game one in the 2nd inning taking a 1-0 lead. In the top of the 4th, Chance Vincent got the Cane Cutters back in the game with a solo homerun that made it 1-1. James Ziegler (Chandler-Gilbert CC) followed suit the next inning hitting his first homerun of the year and putting Acadiana up 2-1. The bottom of the 5th is where the Cane Cutters lost the game as the Strykers were able to put up 5 runs including a grand slam by Greg Belton. Acadiana was shutout for the rest of the game and the score ended 6-2.

 

Cody Coll (Western Kentucky) started on the mound for the Cane Cutters going 4.1 innings while giving up 6 runs on 6 hits. Ryan May (LSU) came in for Coll and threw 1.2 shutout innings.

 

Chance Vincent and James Ziegler led the offense as each had 2 hits and a homerun.

 

Cody Coll got the loss for the Cane Cutters. Andrew Godail got the win for the Generals in his complete game effort that included 10 strikeouts.

 

Game two was an offensive dual. The Strykers struck first by scoring one in the 2nd giving them a 1-0 lead. They put up 4 in the 3rd to extend their lead to 5-0. Acadiana got 3 back in the 4th including a two-run homerun form James Ziegler. With the score 5-3, Acadiana scored one in the 6th to bring it to 5-4. After giving up 2 in the bottom of the 6th, the Cane Cutters scored one in the 7th but were unable to score more and the game ended 7-5.

 

Jake Brumfield (Pearl River CC) started for Acadiana going 2.2 innings while giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. Cole Butler (Ranger JC) relieved Brumfield and threw 2.1 shutout innings while striking out 2 batters. Colten Lee (Pearl River CC) closed out the game throwing 1 inning and giving up 2 runs.

 

Alex Tucker (Nicholls State) had a great game at the plate going 3-3 with a run scored. Hunter Wood (Western Kentucky) contributed by going 2-4 with a run.

 

The Acadiana Cane Cutters are now 14-11 and in 3rd place in the standings.

 

The Cane Cutters will return home on July 1st to play against the 2nd place Victoria Generals. Join us at Fabacher Field on July 2nd for our Fourth of July Celebration.
