CANE CUTTERS FALL TO GENERALS07/01/2014 9:40 PM - The Acadiana Cane Cutters were unable to come out on top of a pair of brilliant pitching performances and fell 2-0 to the Victoria Generals. The Cane Cutters could not figure out the Generals’ starter Ty Schlottmann, as he dealt 8 innings on the mound without surrendering a run. Acadiana only managed to scatter 4 hits off of the left-hander out of Texas A&M. Jeff Chesnut would come in for the Generals to pitch a scoreless 9th inning and pick up the save.
The Cane Cutters did have a fantastic pitching performance of their own, however, as starter Nick Zaunbrecher (University of Louisiana-Lafayette) only gave up 2 runs in 5 innings pitched, allowing 5 hits. Scott Szush (Southeastern Louisiana), Evan Hebert (University of Arizona), and Hayden Guidry (University of Louisiana-Lafayette) combined for four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Both Victoria runs were scored in the 6th inning when Alvaro Rondon and Brian Portelli had back-to-back RBI base hits.
Acadiana would threaten to rally in the bottom of the 9th inning when Connor Barron (Southern Mississippi) lead off with a double to left field, but the Cane Cutters would not cross home plate.
With the loss, the Cane Cutters drop to a record of 14-12 on the season.
