CANE CUTTERS LOSE TIGHT, BACK-AND-FORTH GAME

07/02/2014 10:04 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters lost the final game of their two game series against the Victoria Generals 7-6 after 2nd place Victoria scored a run in the top of the 9th to grab hold of the game.

The Cane Cutters started the scoring early when Taylor Walker (Jackson State CC) hit a huge double that drove in two runs. Acadiana would go up 3-0 in the 3rd when Chance Vincent (Alabama) hit a groundball that drove in Connor Barron (Southern Miss). The Generals would tie up the game in the 4th after a pair of Acadiana errors. The Cane Cutters answered right back with a run in the 5th after Vincent hit a sacrifice fly that would score Barron.

In the top of the 7th, the Generals tied the game back up at 4-4. Victoria would score 2 runs in the 8th and it seemed to take the wind right out of the crowd. The Cane Cutters showed great fight, however, and scored 2 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game once again. Acadiana gave up one run in the 9th making it 7-6 and that would be the final score.

Jesse Stallings (LSU) started on the mound for the Cane Cutters going 4.2 innings while giving up 3 runs on 6 hits. He also struck out 5. Ryan May (LSU) came in to throw in the 5th and would last 2.1 total innings while giving up 3 runs on 3 hits. Colten Lee (Pearl River JC) followed up May and went 1 shutout inning. Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) would finish the game for the Cane Cutters.

Connor Barron had the big game for the Cane Cutter offense going 3-4 with 3 runs, 2 stolen bases, and a walk. Cameron Dishon (Ole Miss) also had a solid game going 2-5 with a stolen base.

Scott Ashford got the loss for the Cane Cutters after giving up one in the 9th. Armando Arevalo got the win for the Generals while Jeff Chesnut got the save.

The Acadiana Cane Cutters are now 14-13 and remain in 3rd place in the standings.
