CANE CUTTERS GO DOWN ON THE 4TH

07/04/2014 9:02 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters lost the final game of their two game series on the road against the Texas Marshals 5-4.

After early success by the starting pitchers, the Cane Cutter put 2 on the board in the 4th with an RBI single by Trey Hicks (Texas State) and an error on a Kennon Menard (Southeastern) hit. The Marshals came charging back, however, and scored 4 in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 4-2. Taylor Walker (Jackson State CC) was clutch in the 7th hitting a single that would drive in Connor Barron (Southern Miss) and Justin Holt (Nicholls State) and tie the game up at 4-4. In the 8th, the Marshals were able to get a runner on and he scored after an error and a groundout making it 5-4. Justin Holt walked in the 9th, but the Cane Cutters could not get him in and the game ended 5-4.

Cody Coll (Western Kentucky) made his 6th start of the summer on the mound for the Cane Cutters going 6 innings while giving up 4 runs on 8 hits. He struck out 7 Texas hitters. He was relieved by Evan Hebert (Arizona) who threw 1 shutout inning before handing the ball over to Colten Lee (Pearl River JC). Lee threw 1 inning and gave up the game-wining run.

Taylor Walker was the offensive threat today going 1-3 with 2 RBIs, a run scored, and a walk.

Colten Lee got the loss for the Cane Cutters. Jonathon Lycan got the win for the Marshals. The Acadiana Cane Cutters are now 15-14 and remain in 3rd place in the overall standings.

The team will continue on Saturday to play a two game road series against the Woodlands Strykers. They will then be on a three-day break for the All-Star Game, which will be held in College Station, Texas and hosted by the Brazos Valley Bombers.
