BALANCED OFFENSIVE ATTACK POWERS CANE CUTTER WIN

07/05/2014 9:17 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters defeated the Woodlands Strykers on the road by a score of 7-3, behind a balanced offensive attack.

The Cane Cutters got the action started in the top of the 3rd inning when Jalen Haskin (Pearl River Junior College) scored on a Cameron Dishon (Ole Miss) groundout. Taylor Walker (Jackson State Community College) then followed Dishon with a sacrifice fly, scoring Connor Barron (Southern Mississippi).

Acadiana would give starting pitcher Jake Brumfield (Pearl River Junior College) two more runs of insurance in the top of the 4th inning. Haskin would score Austin Knight (Ole Miss) from 3rd base on a groundout. Daniel Cucjen (University of Alabama) would score later in the inning on an error, to expand the lead to 4-0.

With one out in the 5th inning, Chance Vincent (University of Alabama) would take pitcher Devin Skapura yard, but the Strykers would respond with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, bringing the tally to 5-1.

The Cane Cutters would add another run in the 6th inning and score again in the 7th inning for their final two runs of the game to make the score 7-1. Woodlands would attempt a comeback, but it was too little too late, scoring once in the 8th inning and in the 9th inning.

Brumfield pitched four and two-thirds innings to pick up the win, allowing only one run. Ryan May (Louisiana State) and Cole Butler (Ranger Junior College) came out of the bullpen to protect the lead.
