CANE CUTTERS GO DOWN IN EXTRAS

 The Acadiana Cane Cutters lost an extra-inning heartbreaker to the Woodlands Strykers on the road tonight by a final score of 8-7. It was the last game of their 4-game road trip before the All-Star Break.

 

The Acadiana offense wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Connor Barron (Southern Miss) scored on an error after walking and Chance Vincent (Alabama) drove in Cameron Dishon (Ole Miss) with an RBI single. The scoring continued in the 2nd when Alex Tucker (Nicholls State) hit a 2 RBI double and Cameron Dishon hit an RBI single to score Tucker. Woodlands got one back in the 4th to make the score 5-1.

 

In the 7th, Acadiana added an insurance run as Chance Vincent scored on a fielder’s choice. The Strykers scored 3 in the 8th to put them within striking distance. The Cane Cutters answered right backs by scoring 1 in the 9th to give them some breathing room. Acadiana had a shaky 9th,however, as closer Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) struggled with his command and the Strykers scored 3 runs to tie the game at 7-7. The two teams went scoreless in extras until the 12th when Nathan Halas hit a walk-off single for the Strykers.

 

Newest Cane Cutter Jake Johnson (Neosha County CC) made his first appearance of the season and looked comfortable pitching with an early lead. He lasted 5 innings giving up just 1 run on 1 hit. He struck out 4 batters during the course of his outing. TCL All-Star Alec Sanchez (Texas State) came in to throw in the 6th and would last 2 innings. He did not allow a run and struck out 3. Scott Szush (Southeastern) came in to throw 1 inning and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits while striking out 2. All-Star closer Scott Ashford came in looking for the save but struggled in his .2 innings of work. He gave up 3 runs on 2 hits with 5 walks. Colten Lee (Pearl River JC) got the team out of the dreadful 9th and stayed in to throw 2.1 innings but did givw up the winning run in the 12th.

 

All-Star Connor Barron had a good game at the plate going 2-4 with a run scored. Alex Tucker was 1-4 with a big double, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. Trent Giambrone (Jones County CC) was 2-5 with a run scored.

 

Colten Lee got the loss for the Cane Cutters. Gandy Stubblefield got the win for the Strykers. The Acadiana Cane Cutters are now 16-15 and remain in 3rd place in the overall standings.

 

The Cane Cutters will be on a three-day break for the All-Star Game, which will be held in College Station, Texas and hosted by the Brazos Valley Bombers. The next home game will be on Thursday, July 10th against the first place Bravos Valley Bombers.
