POWERADE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

The Acadiana Cane Cutters have started off the second half of the season 2-2 splitting both series with the Generals and Strykers at 1 win a piece. The first game against the Marshals on Thursday was won by a score of 4-2 and game two was lost by a score of 5-4 before heading to The Woodlands, Texas to take on the Strykers.  The Cane Cutters had a balanced offensive attack in game one of the series against the Strykers, winning 7-3.  Game two of the series ended in a 12-inning heartbreaker as the Strykers came back from behind in the 9th inning to tie the score at 7-7 and sent the game to extra innings where Nathan Halas hit a walk-off single for the Strykers. 
 
The Powerade Player of the Week has been awarded to centerfielder from Southern Miss, Connor Barron, for the 2nd time this season.  Barron has been at the top of the Cane Cutters lineup for several games and has had numerous big games for the team this season.  He is currently hitting .333 (33-99), has 8 RBIs, 25 runs, 18 stolen bases and 1 homerun thus far.  In the Cane Cutters recent road trip, Barron was 10-26 and recorded a .385 batting average, .467 on base percentage, .615 slugging percentage, 4 doubles, 1 RBI, 7 runs, 1 triple, and 6 stolen bases.  Barron also has 37 putouts and 2 assists on defense in 25 games played. 
 
The Powerade Pitcher of the Week was presented to Jake Winston, also from Southern Miss.  Jake was the star of the first game against the Texas Marshals after pitching 8 innings and only allowing two Marshal runs.  Winston picked up his 2nd win of the season and struck out 5 batters and recorded a 2.25 ERA and a .222 opponents batting average.  Jake has started in 6 games, pitching 35 innings for the Cane Cutters through the first half of the season.  He has allowed 27 hits, 15 runs and leads the team with 30 strikeouts and currently has an ERA of 3.34 for the season.
 
The Cane Cutters will be on a three day break for the All-Star Game held in College Station Texas that will feature position players Connor Barron (Southern Miss), Taylor Walker (Jackson State CC), and Hunter Wood (Western Kentucky) and pitchers Alec Sanchez (Texas State), Scott Ashford (Ole Miss), and Ryan May (LSU).  The team will return to Fabacher Field Thursday night in a two game series against the first place Brazos Valley Bombers.
 
The Cane Cutters will host a Zydeco Night at Fabacher Field on Thirsty Thursday with $1 10-ounce beers and will be serving Jambalaya to go along with the Zydeco theme.  Head Coach Lonny Landry and the Cane Cutters will be hosting their final Youth Summer Baseball Camp for ages 6-14 on July 10th from 9AM-12PM and July 11th from 9AM-12: 45PM.  Lunch and a slip and slide will be provided on the 11th and the kids will receive a free ticket to the next Cane Cutters home game.  The cost per camper is $75 and the registration form can be found at www.canecuttersbaseball.com/community.
