CANE CUTTERS’ LATE INNING HEROICS POWERS WIN

07/16/2014 10:18 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters topped the Texas Marshals by the score of 4-3 with the help of two two-out clutch hits in the 9th and 10th innings.

The Cane Cutters offense struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning. After Cameron Dishon (Ole Miss) one-hopped the left-center wall with a triple, Hunter Wood (Western Kentucky) followed the Acadiana leftfielder with a sacrifice fly to gain the early advantage.

However, the Marshals would grab the lead in the top of the 4th inning, scoring a run on a wild pitch and another run on a sacrifice fly to jump ahead 2-1.

Acadiana would bounce back to tie the ballgame in the bottom of the 6th inning with Chance Vincent sending a 3-1 offering from Marshal starting pitcher Holden Novak over the left field fence.

The Marshals would recapture the lead shortly thereafter, however, plating a run in the top of the 7th inning.

There would be magic at Fabacher Field starting in the bottom of the 9th inning. With two outs, Kennon Menard (Southeastern Louisiana) drew a walk and Connor Barron drove him in from first base with a triple to right-center field.

The magic would continue in the bottom of the 10th inning. With two outs and Jalen Haskin (Pearl River Junior College) standing on third base, just 90 feet away from winning the evening’s contest, Trent Giambrone (Jones County Community College) lined a single up the middle to win the ballgame.

Jake Johnson (Neosha County Community College) got the start on the mound for the Cane Cutters and dealt six innings of two-run ball. The right-hander struck out four and only surrendered two hits.

Evan Hebert (University of Arizona) would then get the call from the bullpen in the tie game, but he only threw one-third of an inning and allowed a run to score. Alec Sanchez (Texas State) would come in to finish the 7th inning and pitched a scoreless 8th inning as well. The Cane Cutters went to Ole Miss left-hander Scott Ashford in the 9th inning, who pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Acadiana will continue their home stand Thursday evening against the East Texas Pump Jacks for UL Night at Fabacher Field. The University of Louisiana softball team will be recognized in a pregame ceremony for their outstanding achievements this season. A media challenge will also be taking place before the game with members of the local media taking swings at pitches from UL softball members. Friday will be another great evening at the ballpark as it is Lyle Mouton Bobble Head Night, powered by Nursing Specialties, Inc. The first 400 fans with purchased tickets will get a Mouton bobble head doll, and Mouton will also be in attendance for night’s contest against the East Texas Pump Jacks. The excitement will continue after the game with a fireworks show courtesy of C&G Boats. You can watch the games online by going to www.Ustream.com.
