CANE CUTTERS WIN PITCHER’S DUAL

07/26/2014 9:05 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters won a thrilling pitcher’s dual against the Woodlands Strykers by a score of 3-2. There was a great buzz in the park as it was Lyle Mouton Bobblehead Night as well as Bike Night, Star Trek Night, and the Challenger Game.

The Strykers got on the scoreboard first after putting up a run on an error in the 1st inning. The Cane Cutters answered right back in the 2nd as Austin Knight (Ole Miss) scored on a fielder’s choice. Pitching would take over from there, as both teams were unable to score for the next 4 innings. In the 7th, Kennon Menard (Southeastern) drew a bases loaded walk from Strykers starter Braxton Markle to push the Cane Cutters ahead 2-1. Acadiana would add another that inning as Connor Barron (Southern Miss) scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1. The Strykers rallied in the 9th to score one but it would not be enough to top Acadiana.

Hayden Guidry (University of Louisiana-Lafayette) started on the mound for Acadiana going 6+ innings while surrendering just one unearned run. He allowed 4 hits while striking out 3 batters. Alec Sanchez (Texas State) came in in the 7th with a runner on 2nd and was able to prevent any runs from scoring. His would throw 2+ innings allowing one unearned run and 2 hits. He did manage to strikeout 2 Strykers. Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) was called on with bases loaded in the 9th and got out of it without allowing a run.

Austin Knight led the Cane Cutters on offense going 2-4 with a run scored. Connor Barron had a solid game as well going 1-3 with a run scored and 2 stolen bases.

Alec Sanchez got the win for the Cane Cutters while Scott Ashford picked up the save. Braxton Markle got the loss for the Woodlands Strykers. The Acadiana Cane Cutters are 10-8 in the 2nd half and 24-21 overall.
