CANE CUTTERS’ WINNING STREAK COMES TO END

The Acadiana Cane Cutters’ four game-winning streak came to an end on Thursday night as they lost to the Texas Marshals 4-2 in the first game of their two game home series.

 

The Cane Cutters struck first by scoring a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning as Alex Tucker (Nicholls State) hit an RBI single that drove in James Ziegler (Chandler-Gilbert CC). The Marshals would tie the game at 1-1 in the 4th after an RBI single. Acadiana took a 2-1 lead in the 5th when Chance Vincent (Alabama) hit a single to drive in Connor Barron (Southern Miss). In the 7th, the Marshals took control of the game as walks and timely hitting allowed them to plate 3 and take a 4-2 lead. They would not look back after that and would secure the win with a strong bullpen outing.

 

Cole Butler (Ranger JC) made his 1st start of the year on the mound for Acadiana and lasted 4+ innings while giving up a single earned run on 4 hits.  He managed to strike out 2 Marshals in the no decision. Colten Lee (Pearl River JC) was called on in the 5th inning with two on and no outs and was able to get out of it without a run scoring. He was pulled after 2.2 innings, 1 unearned run, 1 hit, and 3 strikeouts. Scott Szush (Southeastern) came in with the bases loaded in the 7thand surrendered a hit that scored 2 runs. Szush’s final line was 2.1 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, and 3 strikeouts.

 

Connor Barron had a nice game at the plate collecting a 2 singles, a run, and 2 stolen bases. Chance Vincent contributed with a pair of singles and an RBI as well.

 

Keaton Brewer got the win for the Texas Marshals while James Batton got the save. Colten Lee got the loss for the Cane Cutters.  The Acadiana Cane Cutters are 13-9 in the 2nd half and 27-22 overall.

 

The Cane Cutters will finish their series against the Texas Marshals on August 1st. It is LSU Night where former LSU star Eric Hetzel will be throwing out the first pitch and there will be a C&G Boats post game firework show. On August 4th from5:30-6:30, Cane Cutters fans are invited to the manager’s reception at the Hampton. Eddy and players will be on hand to sign autographs. Tickets for the Hampton Inn and Suites “Take A Nine Inning Vacation” game the following night will be raffled off. The Hampton will provide complimentary food and drink to Cane Cutters fans in Cane Cutters attire. Come “Take a Nine Inning Vacation” on August 5th sponsored by Hampton Inn and Suites and win prizes for local attractions including the Hampton, Kart Ranch, Evangeline Downs, and a grand prize of a four night stay in Destin Fla. Pirates and Princesses Night sponsored by Play and Learn, Fan Appreciation Day, and C&G Boats Shirts off Your Back Night will all be on August 6th.
