BIG FIRST INNING POWERS CANE CUTTER BLOWOUT IN HOME FINALE

08/06/2014 10:02 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters won big in their regular season home finale tonight against the Woodlands Strykers by a score of 11-0.

Tonight’s victor was never really in doubt after Acadiana poured in ten runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Utilizing a very patient plate approach, the Cane Cutters drew seven walks in the 1st inning alone.

Acadiana would add one more run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to conclude the scoring for the evening as Jalen Haskin (Pearl River Community College) scored on a Chance Vincent (University of Alabama) fielder’s choice.

Several Acadiana hitters contributed to the big offensive showing. Catcher Alex Tucker (Nicholls State) was 4-5 at the plate tonight with three RBIs and a triple. Connor Barron (Southern Mississippi) started in centerfield tonight and was 1-1 with a 3-run home run in the big 1st inning. Vincent also drove in a total of three runs on the night.

Not to be outdone, the Cane Cutter pitching staff matched the offense’s effort with an outstanding performance of their own. Starter Jake Johnson (Neosha County Community College) got the win after delivering five innings of shut out baseball. Jesse Stallings (Louisiana State University) then came in to pitch the next four innings without allowing a run.

Piling on last night’s thrilling 10-9 victory over the Strykers, the Cane Cutter bats scored 21 total runs in their two game midweek series.

With the win, the red-hot Cane Cutters will look to extend their winning streak through the final regular season series at the East Texas Pump Jacks on Thursday and Friday.

The Cane Cutters first playoff game is likely on the road on Saturday August 9th, against the Victoria Generals. The winner of each of the semifinal games will move on to a 3 game championship series. If Acadiana and the 1- seed Brazos Valley Bombers win, the Cane Cutters will have a home game on Sunday August 10th. If the 4 seed wins, the Cane Cutters will host games on August 11th and 12th.
