CANE CUTTERS GO DOWN DESPITE 10 RUNS FROM OFFENSE

08/07/2014 9:51 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters dropped game one of their final series of the year on Thursday night by a score of 13-10 against the East Texas Pump Jacks.

The game did not start well for Acadiana as they allowed 5 runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings. Another run scored in the 4th and the Cane Cutters were quickly down 11-0. They began a strong comeback in the 5th as Chance Vincent (Alabama) hit a grand slam to bring the score to 11-4. East Texas answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning making it 12-4. The Cane Cutters, however, would not go down easily scoring 6 runs in the 7th inning. The runs were scored in an odd variety of bases loaded situations including a wild pitch, 3 hit-by-pitches, and a Chance Vincent single. The Cane Cutters had cut the lead to just 2 but allowed East Texas to score a run in the 7th and increase their lead back up to 3. Neither team would score again and the final was 13-10.

Cole Butler (Ranger JC) made his 2nd start of the season for Acadiana and struggled to keep runs off the board. He lasted just 1.1 innings while allowing 10 runs on 10 hits. Newest Cane Cutter Riley Cooper (Louisiana-Lafayette) made his first appearance with the team and threw 3 innings allowing just 2 runs. Colten Lee (Pearl River JC) was called on to keep the team in the game and threw 2.2 strong innings surrendering a single run on 2 hits. TCL All-Star Alec Sanchez (Texas State) threw a scoreless 8th allowing 2 hits.

Chance Vincent continued his recent hot streak at the plate with a monster game for Acadiana. He was 4-5 with a homerun, 5 RBIs, and a run scored. Taylor Walker (Jackson State CC), Daniel Cucjen (Alabama), and James Ziegler (Chandler-Gilbert CC) each contributed 2 hits as well.

Ray Messner got the win for the East Texas Pump Jacks while Zach Thompson got the save. Cole Butler got the loss for the Cane Cutters. The Acadiana Cane Cutters are 17-10 in the 2nd half and 31-23 overall.

Acadiana will play its final regular season game on Friday night on the road against the East Texas Pump Jacks. The Cane Cutters first playoff game is likely on the road on Saturday August 9th, against the Victoria Generals. The winner of each of the semifinal games will move on to a 3 game championship series. If Acadiana and the 1- seed Brazos Valley Bombers win, the Cane Cutters will have a home game on Sunday August 10th. If the East Texas wins, the Cane Cutters will host games on August 11th and 12th.
