The Cane Cutters are excited to announce more key additions to their roster. Michael Hanchar, Clay Brast, and Braedon Barret add to an already deep team. With these additions the team is poised to compete.

Michael Hanchar, a sophomore from Highland, Indiana, goes to Nicholls State. In one season with the team he started as a pitcher in 4 games while pitching 19 innings; totaling 14 strikeouts.

This summer he is poised to compete for a starting job in the rotation and to improve as a pitcher.

“Michael will be someone who comes in and competes every day,” Head Coach Lonny Landry said.

Clay Brast, a freshman pitcher from Houston, Texas, hopes to make an impact for the team in his first season.

During his first season with McNeese State he pitched 18.2 innings with 15 strikeouts in 14 games. He looks to add to that success with the Cane Cutters.

“Clay is a young guy who we think will be fun to watch and someone who will greatly benefit from his time with the team,” Cane Cutter’s co-owner Richard Chalmers said.

From Northwestern State, Braedon Barret finishes off the list of additions for the team. The freshman infielder from Lake Charles, Louisiana impressed the Demons by leading Barbe High School to two class 5A state championships and to a national title as a senior.

“We look to see Braedon improve greatly as a ballplayer this summer and to become a good player for us in the field and at the plate,” GM Richard Haifley said.

The Cane Cutters are set to open their fifth season at home on May 28th, against the Victoria Generals. Season tickets are now available. Call (337) 451-6582.
