The Cane Cutters continued their 2-game series with the Strykers in The Woodlands, looking to avenge their first loss of the season.

Kirk McCarty started on the mound for the Cane Cutters, pitching a full 6 innings. He had 4 strikeouts and gave up 3 runs, including a solo home run from Justin Perales in the 2nd inning that put the Strykers on the board first.

Blake Glauben took the mound for the Strykers and started out solid with 3 strikeouts in the first 3 innings, but the top of the 4th brought the beginning of the end for the Strykers.

Taylor Braley reached first on a throwing error, followed by a Kyle Knaulth walk. With 2 on base, Adam Yacek delivered with a huge triple to the right center field gap, giving the Cane Cutters a 2-1 lead.

James Ziegler picked up where Yacek left off, bringing him home with a single up the middle and putting the boys from Acadiana up 3-1.

The Strykers made things interesting in the bottom of the 4th when McCarty gave up consecutive singles to Garrett Hope and Lance Miles.

Perales got to first on a throwing error and Hope scored, bringing the Strykers within a run. Osmus then came up and hit an RBI single, tying up the score at 3.

Both starting pitchers stayed in until the 7th inning, when Jacob Howell came in for the Glauben and Scott Szush for McCarty. Both pitchers kept the score where it was until the 9th inning, when the Cane Cutters came to bat in a big way.

Yacek and Ziegler hit back-to-back solo home runs in the 9th inning, and the score would stay 5-3 through the bottom of the 9th.

Szush got the win with 3 innings pitched and no runs allowed, and Howell got the loss.

The Cane Cutters now head to Tyler, TX, to start a 2-game series with the Pump Jacks.

They will return home Saturday June 6th against the Generals. Game 2 of the series will be played on a Duhon’s Slippery Sunday. All kids can take turns on the Water Slide for FREE from 6-7pm. June 7th is also Star Wars night! All fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Star Wars characters and take picture with members of the 501st.
