Your Cane Cutters stopped their three game skid with a big win in the first game of the series versus the Brazos Valley Bombers. The Cane Cutters moved to 8-4 with the win as the Bombers dropped to 7-2.

In the first season matchup between the two teams there was no lack of runs as the final score was 5-2.

On the mound for the Cane Cutters was Daniel Martinez (University of New Orleans). Martinez got the win for the Cane Cutters as he started on the mound. He moved his record to 2-0 after 6.0 innings pitched allowing 2 runs with 7 strikeouts.

The Cane Cutters got to the starting pitcher for the Bombers pitcher early. The starting pitcher for the bombers was Chance Kirby who pitched 4.2 innings while giving up 4 runs on 5 hits.

The scoring started in the top of the second inning for the Cane Cutters as Daniel Keating (Southern Miss) advanced to first on a walk. He then moved over to second on a stolen base attempt. As the next batter Cameron Cummings (University of South Alabama) walked, the Cane Cutters threatened with runners on first and second. Alex Tucker (Nicholls State, 3-4 on the night, the catcher then stepped in to the plate and singled. Keating then came around to score off of an error by the Bombers. This score evened the game up 1-1 as the Bombers pushed one run across in the top of the first. The scoring was not done as the Cane Cutters took a lead off of the second error for the inning from the Bombers to make the score 3-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Bombers pitching change to Nick Jones did not work out as planned as he quickly gave back to back singles to the heart of the Cane Cutters lineup in Taylor Braley(Southern Miss), 2-5 at the plate, and James Ziegler (Chandler Gilbert Community College). Adam Yacek (Miami of Ohio) then hit an RBI single that pushed the score to 3-2 as Braley came across to score.

In the top of the sixth the Cane Cutters took advantage of another pitching change as the leadoff batter Alex Tucker singled. After Tucker advanced to third, Zak Kutsulis (Notre Dame) had an RBI single but was thrown out as he was too aggressive trying to stretch it into a double making it 5-2.

Austin Millet (Southern Miss) then came in to stop the Bombers from evening up the game. After a good pitched inning from Millet he struggled in the next as the Bombers would load the bases. Braley, a position player, would then be subbed in at pitcher and would then get three quick outs stranding the Bombers with bases loaded.

Braley stayed in at pitcher and was able to continue his success at pitcher. He came in the bottom of the ninth and gave up one run to make the score 5-3. However the Cane Cutters were able to hold onto their lead to end the night with a win.
