Canes Win!

06/19/2015 6:24 AM -

After another victory for your Cane Cutters they have now moved to 10-5 by beating the Woodland Strykers 6-2.  On a 2 game winning streak  the team is poised for a deep run this season as they have been firing on all cylinders.

It did not look good from the beginning as the Cane Cutters fell behind early 2-0. The starting pitcher for the Cane Cutters, Kirk McCarty (Southern Miss) really settled in after giving up 2 early runs in the top of the second inning. He pitched a quality outing after getting the win as he pitched 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts.

The starting pitcher for the Stryker’s and the eventual losing pitcher was Lenzie Foley. Foley started out strong but was then quickly pulled after giving up 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. His replacement Bryce Tomlin then came in and did not have any success as he gave up 2 more runs in the next inning.

The scoring started in the top of the 5th inning for the Cane Cutters. With Taylor Braley (Southern Miss), 1-5 on the night with a run scored,  on first, first baseman Adam Yacek (Miami of Ohio) walked to load the bases and to score second baseman Braedon Barrett (Northwestern State University). Next up was the designated hitter James Ziegler (Chandler Gilbert Community College) who had an RBI single that scored Braley. 2 more runs would then come across home plate as the Cane Cutters finished the bottom of the 5th leading 4-0.

The scoring would not stop there as in the next inning 2 more runs would come across to score as catcher Alex Tucker would earn a stolen base and eventually score the 5th run of the game to push the lead to 5-2. Connor Short (University of Alabama would then advance to first off of a long fly ball error by the left fielder for the Strykers. Along with that error Zak Kutsulis would then come across to score the 6th run of the evening.

Not much else happened as 2 more pitchers came in for the Cane Cutters, in Jevin Huval (Louisiana Lafayette) and Scott Szush (Southeastern Louisiana University, as they shut out the Strykers.

Your Cane Cutters will be in action again tomorrow night at Fabachar Field to take on the Strykers. Tomorrow night is Fiesta Night as there will be fajitas, margarita specials and beer specials.
