Double The Success

07/04/2015 7:53 AM -

Due to last night’s rainout, your Cane Cutters had to play a double header today, before heading back to the friendly confines of Fabacher Field, as we are now only two games away from the All-Star break.

The Cane Cutters swept the double header in a couple of very well pitched quick paced games, winning 9-1 in game one and 2-1 in game two, to move to 17-10 on the season. They have now won 4 games in a row.

In game one, the Cane Cutters got the things going early in the 1st inning with a 2 run homerun by third baseman Taylor Braley (Southern Mississippi). They then struck gold in the top of the 2nd with a grand slam by center fielder Daniel Keating (Southern Mississippi) to lead the game 6-0.

The Cane Cutters were also able to tack on 3 more runs in 6th inning with another hit by Daniel Keating (Southern Mississippi) that plated 2 runs and an RBI hit by right fielder James Zielger (Chandler-Gilbert CC).

Pitcher Daniel Martinez threw a gem for the Cane Cutters, going the full 7 innings, giving up only 1 run with 3 strikeouts to pick up his fifth win of the season.

In game two, there much less offense with similar results.

While the Strykers plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning, in hopes of breaking their long losing streak, their wish was to be denied. The Cane Cutters would strike back in the top of the 3rd inning with Daniel Keating (Southern Mississippi) reaching on a fielder’s choice and scoring on a 2 out RBI double by James Ziegler (Chandler-Gilbert CC) to tie the game up at 1 run apiece.

In the top of the 6th inning the Cane Cutters would take the lead and never look back when right fielder Cameron Cummings (Southern Alabama) reached on a single and moved to third on a couple of passed balls by the catcher. That would set up for first baseman Zak Kutsuils (Notre Dame) to come up and push Cummings (Southern Alabama) across the plate with a 2 out RBI single.

Just as in game one the starting pitching was stunning, with another complete game. Jared Taylor made only his 5th start of the year and picked up his second win on the season, going the full 7 innings, giving up only 1 run with 1 strikeout.

Your Cane Cutters will be back home tomorrow as the East Texas Pump Jacks roll in from Tyler for the first time this year for a 2 game set starting at 7pm. We will have a dunk tank on hand as GM Richard Haifley and other Cane Cutter members will be getting wet!
