Double The Fun

The Cane Cutters lost a close one in the first game of the double header , 3-2, to the East Texas Pumpjacks. The loss ends the Cane Cutters 4 game winning streak and moves the team’s record to 17-11.

 

Starting pitcher Nick McCarty (Notre Dame) had a rough start allowing 3 runs in the first 2 innings. However he would settle in and eventually go on to pitch 5.2 innings, allowing 9 hits and 3 runs with 4 strikeouts in route to getting the loss.

 

The offense would then strike for 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The designated hitter Zac Kutsulis (Notre Dame) would walk with 2 outs. Next up was Daniel Keating (Southern Miss)who then singled to advance Kutsulis to second. Taylor Braley (Southern Miss) would also single to score Kutsulis. Not to be outdone next up was James Ziegler (Chandler Gilbert Community College). Ziegler would then total the third single in a row to bring the score to 3-2 as Daniel Keating would come across to score.

 

The winning pitcher for the Pumpjacks was John Caskey. Caskey would pitch 6 innings allowing 8 hits and a strikeout with 2 runs scored.

 

This was the first time the Cane Cutters have faced the East Texas Pumpjacks at Fabacher Field this season.

 

Game 2

 

Game two of the double header goes to the Cane Cutters in a dominant 7-1 victory. After struggling in game one the offense came to play in game two.

 

 

The leadoff batter for the Cane Cutters in Zac Kutsulis (Notre Dame) would reach on a walk to start the bottom of the first. Two more batters would then reach as James Ziegler (Chandler Gilbert Community College), the right fielder, would come to bat. Ziegler would then draw a walk with the bases loaded to score Kutsulis.

 

More scoring would come the very next inning for the team. With Daniel Keating (Southern Miss) up a wild pitch would get by to score Leiff Clarkson (Western Kentucky), 2-3 with a run scored,  from 3rd base.

 

The fifth inning was a big one for the Cane Cutters as 4 runs would come in to score. The leadoff batter, Ziegler, would reach on a single. Chance Vincent (Alabama), who was making his debut with the team, would then also single as he was 1-3 with a run scored on the evening. Adam Yacek (Miami of Ohio) would then single to load the bases. Chance Vincent and Adam Yacek would then score. Cameron Cummings (University of South Alabama) would draw a walk and Zac Kutsulis would single then advance to second on a wild pitch scoring Cummings. This would bring the score to 7-1.

 

The starting pitcher was Michael Hanchar who pitcher 3.1 innings with 4 hits and one run. Your Cane Cutters move to 18-11.

 

The Cane Cutters end with the second place and home playoff spot as the halfway point of the season wraps up. The All Star game will be this Tuesday in Victoria, Texas. Our next home game is Tuesday, July 14th. It will be Fiesta Night and Science Night.
