10/12/2011 2:25 PM -

Press Release Dated 10/12/11

The Acadiana Cane Cutters are pleased to announce that Head Coach Lonny Landry will be returning to coach the team in its second season in 2012.  After an impressive inaugural season, where the Cane Cutters came in second in the first half which locked up a playoff berth, and won 29 regular season games, Landry will again lead the Texas Collegiate League team in the 2012 season.  Individually, 5 Cane Cutters were selected as All-Stars, including shortstop Brett Thornell of Texas A&M, catcher Grant Dozar of LSU,  outfielder/pitcher Josh Burris of LSUE, outfielder Andrew Miller of Alabama, and outfielder Mike Barba of Nicholls State.

Teurlings graduate Taylor Dugas won the Texas Collegiate League Player of the Year.  Dugas did not sign with the Cubs organization after being drafted in the 8th round, but elected to return to the University of Alabama for his senior year.  Josh Burris led the league in stolen bases before signing with the Minnesota Twins organization.

Head Coach Lonny Landry reports that he is busily recruiting players for the coming season, and college coaches continue to call to place players with this new team.  Fabacher Field will once again be the home field for the Cane Cutters, and season tickets will be on sale beginning 10/19/11.  Find out more information at www.canecuttersbaseball.com and follow us on Facebook at Acadiana Cane Cutters Baseball.
