Cutters Bounce Back

07/23/2015 10:21 AM -

The Cane Cutters beat the Marshall’s 2-1 as they rebounded from a loss.  This moves the Cane Cutters to 7-9 while the Marshalls fall to 3-13

It was a fast paced pitching matchup between the starter for the Cane Cutters, Daniel Martinez (University of New Orleans) and the Marshall’s starter Keaton Brewer. Martinez bested Brewer as he pitched 8 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run and striking out 5.

The Cane Cutters scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning. With 2 outs, Zach Kutsulis (Notre Dame), the right fielder tripled. Kutsulis was 2-4 in the game with a triple and a double. Next up was Daniel Keating (Southern Miss) who would hit an RBI single to score Kutsulis and to make the game 1-0.

The Marshalls would even things up with an emphatic homerun, from center field Logan Sepanek, in the top of the sixth inning. The homerun tied the game and remained the only run for the Marshalls.

Tied 1-1 the Cane Cutters were able to push across the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. I started with an Evan Williams (TCU) single. Williams would come in to score to make it 2-1 on a Zac Kutsulis double.

The rest of the game went well for the Cane Cutters as they were able to hold the Marshalls scoreless in a tight game.
