It Ain't Over Till It's Over

07/24/2015 1:12 PM -

The Cane Cutters won in walk off fashion tonight 4-3 over the Brazos Valley Bombers. It moved the team to 8-9 while the Bombers fall to 13-4.

The pitching for both teams was dominant early. On the mound for the Cane Cutters was Scott Szush (Southeastern Louisiana). Szush held the Bombers scoreless until the top of the seventh inning in a 9.0 inning pitched game with 5 strikeouts while allowing 6 hits. The starting pitcher for the Bombers was not to be outdone. Darick Hall pitched 7.0 innings allowing 5 hits while striking out 8.

The Bombers scored first in the top of the seventh inning after Geonte Jackson singled and then would come around to score a couple of batters later after a stolen base and a Cane Cutters error.

Trailing 1-0 the Cane Cutters responded quickly. In the bottom of the eight they tacked on 2 runs to lead 2-1. The inning started with a Daniel Keating (Southern Miss) and a Chance Vincent (University of Alabama) single. After the Bombers recorded the first out of the inning next up was James Ziegler who was 1-4 on the night with a single. Ziegler would get his lone hit of the game, a single, to load the bases with one out. Throughout the game the Cane Cutters would fall short to score as they stranded 10 runners on base but that was not the situation here. Connor Short (University of Alabama), 1-4 with 2 RBIs, would double to score Keating and Vincent as the Cane Cutters pulled ahead.

The team would hold onto the lead until with 1 strike left in the top of ninth. Tyler Lawrence would single to tie the game 2-2 for the Bombers. Then Garret Benge would single to put the Bombers up 3-2.

The Cane Cutters would then tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the ninth and it looked like extra innings were in store. However after a Chance Vincent double Joe Robbins (Louisiana Lafayette) pinch hit and delivered in a big spot with a 2 out walk off single to win the game 4-3.
