Cane Cutters release 2012 schedule

04/04/2012 12:39 PM -

PRESS RELEASE  4/4/12 12:00 noon

The Acadiana Cane Cutters have announced their 2012 schedule for this coming season. The Cane Cutters are set to get their second season in the Texas Collegiate League underway when they welcome the Alexandria Aces to Fabacher Field on Friday, June 1st 2012.

The Cane Cutters will host 30 regular season home games along with 30 road games, with the regular season ending on August 11th 2012.  Special promotions are planned each night at the ballpark for fans' enjoyment. “Slippery Sunday” -- kids can enjoy a free waterslide from 6-7:00, “Coke Kids Free Monday”-- all children 10 and under get in for free with an empty bottle or can of Coke. “Free Fun Jump Tuesday”-- kids jump for free all night. Wednesdays are “Ladies Night”, with $2 Margaritas and Wine. “Thirsty Thursday” will feature $1 can beer. “Fiery Friday” will have a fireworks extravaganza every Friday after the game and “Surprise Saturday”, could be anything.

The Cane Cutters saw a tremendous amount of success on the diamond in their inaugural season . The Cutters sent eight players to the 2011 TCL All-Star game, two players were selected to the ALL-TCL Team, and the Cutters outfielder, Taylor Dugas, won TCL Player of the Year honors. The success of the Cutters amounted to 29 regular season wins and a berth into the playoffs.

The 2012 TCL season will welcome  a brand new team from The Woodlands, Texas named The Woodlands Strykers. Joining the Strykers this season is a returning member, the McKinney Marshals. The McKinney Marshals were the 2006 and 2008 TCL champions but took one season off after an ownership change.

These two teams will be joining the five existing members: Alexandria Aces, Brazos Valley Bombers, East Texas Pump Jacks, and Victoria Generals along with your Acadiana Cane Cutters.

The 2012 TCL season will again be divided into two halves. The top two teams at the end of the two halves will receive a berth into the 2012 TCL playoffs.  If a team finishes in the top two in both halves, the next best team not already qualified will be granted a wild-card berth into the playoffs.

The teams finishing in the top two after the first half will receive the #1 and #2 seeds, with the top two teams from the second half receiving the #3 and #4 seeds respectively.

The TCL playoff series format has been tweaked a bit for the 2012 season, with the first round of the playoffs being a single game “win-or-go-home” matchup with the winners moving on to the TCL Championship Series.

The Championship Series will continue its best-of-three layout similar to years past.

Mid-way through the season, the teams will take a break from regular season action to take part in the TCL All-Star game, which will take place in Victoria, Texas the home of the Victoria Generals. The All-Star game is set to be played on Monday, July 9th.  The all-star date was determined after consulting with major league scouts, who wanted to evaluate the league’s top players prior to the signing deadline. In the past, players drafted by major league clubs in June had until the middle of August to sign a pro contract. In the off-season, that deadline was moved up to the second week in July.

Season tickets are on sale now through the box office at Fabacher Field at  337-451-6852. Season tickets will be available online after  April 24.

Acadiana Cane Cutters will be posting Facebook updates at Acadiana Cane Cutters Baseball.  Our roster additions will be highlighted on our website at www.canecuttersbaseball.com.
