Win Streak Ends at 9

08/02/2015 9:17 AM -

The Cane Cutters lose to the Victoria Generals, 9-2, snapping their 9 game win streak. The team is now 15-10 as the Generals are 17-8.

The Generals scored first in the bottom of the second innings. However the Cane Cutters would respond with a run in the top of the third to tie it 1-1.

Zak Kutsulis (Notre Dame), 2-4 with a run scored, would single as the second batter of the inning. Next up was Daniel Keating (Southern Miss) who would have a one out RBI double. Keating was 3-4 with a run scored.

The game would get out of control for the starting pitcher, Michael Hanchar (Nicholls State), as the Generals would score 6 runs in the bottom of the third inning. Hanchar would finish the third inning and be replaced by Devontae Wilson (Southeastern). Hanchar pitched 3 innings, allowed 9 hits, and 7 runs to go with his 3 strikeouts.

Trailing 8-1 the Cane Cutters were able to score 1 more run. Again though the Generals would score another run after to make the total 9-2.

Devontae Wilson pitched 4 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs.

The General’s 13 hits made it a tough night for the Cane Cutters. With the starting pitching and run support the team simply could not make up ground. Lee Gonzalez pitched 7.2 innings giving up 8 hits, 2 runs, and striking out 4.

This upcoming week is the last home series of the season at Fabacher Field; starting Tuesday, August 4th, against the Brazos Valley Bombers. August 6th will be Superhero night as the Cane Cutters will celebrate the first responders here in Lafayette. First responders and four of their family members will get in free and there will be a $500 gift card giveaway. Come out to celebrate their hard work and to watch great baseball.
