Cane Cutters dominate Brazos Valley Bombers

06/26/2016 9:48 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters, ranked 23rd in the Nation, defeated the Brazos Valley Bombers 11-1 on Sunday following a two-game losing streak.

All 11 runs were scored in two innings for Acadiana, and Cane Cutters head coach Austin Flores said it’s hard for any team to come back from big innings like that.

“We did a good job in those two innings – the fifth and the sixth – and usually that’s where you win it or lose it,” Flores said. “If you give up a big inning, it’s tough to come back, and fortunately, we were on the good side of those big innings.”

However, it was a pitchers duel through four and a half innings of play. The Cane Cutter’s offense caught fire at the bottom of the fifth with six runs, the highest number of runs in a single inning all season by Acadiana.

Following the six-run inning, the Bombers put up their sole run of the game, but that inning was cut short by a double play that flew out to right field. In the sixth, Acadiana nearly matched the runs scored in the previous inning with five.

Acadiana’s Trenton Buchhorn, out of the University of Texas at Tyler, led the team in RBI’s with  two. The team totaled 13 hits on 36 at bats.

Carlisle Koestler, out of Hinds Community College, picked up his second win of the season after allowing just one run in six innings pitched.

The Cane Cutters return to action tomorrow night at 7 p.m., as they will attempt to sweep the Bombers in game two of the two-game series.
