Cane Cutters Kick Off 2012 Season

The Acadiana Cane Cutters Baseball team will open its season this Friday, June 1st, at 7:00 at Fabacher Field when they take on the Alexandria Aces.   This year’s roster includes three returning players from last year’s team and five players from Lafayette and the surrounding areas.
            Players returning from last year's  inaugural season team are Mike Barba, Adam Seal and Kaleb Manual. Junior outfielder, Mike Barba, and junior infielder, Adam Seal both return from the Nicholls State Colonels. Junior pitcher, Kaleb Manual makes his return from Southeastern Louisiana University
            Joining the Cane Cutters this year are five players from the Acadiana area. Merrick Ardoin, from Nicholls State, and Ryan Bergeron, from UL Monroe, are both freshman pitchers  from Lafayette. Junior pitcher Ben Suit is from New Iberia and is  making his way from Louisiana State University at Shreveport. Freshman pitcher Zachary Person  will be coming from his hometown school, LSU-Eunice. Justin Desselle, an Iota native,  is a sophomore pitcher that also plays at LSU-Eunice. 
            This year’s team will also have a Ragin Cajun on the squad, Almann Snowden who is a freshman outfielder. The team will also feature three players from Texas A&M University, freshman infielders Andrew Brown and Blake Allemand, and freshman catcher, Mitchell Nau. Three players will also be coming from Southeastern Louisiana University to join their teammate Kaleb Manual. They are junior infielder Alex Marse, junior outfielder Ladd Rhodes, and sophomore pitcher Sean Kennel.
            Along with Person and Desselle from Louisiana State University at Eunice, sophomores Sam Carriere and Patrick Michon, infielder and pitcher respectively, will be joining the team. The Cane Cutters will also have two players from the University of Southern Miss, redshirt freshman catcher Austin Roussel and junior infielder Isaac Rodriguez. Also, joining the Cane Cutters from Nicholls State will be junior pitcher Kelby Langston.
            The Cane Cutters will have two more outfielders joining the team, sophomore Tyler Kamtz from University of New Mexico and freshman Braxton Lee from Pearl River Community College. They also have five pitchers that will fill up the roster. They consist of two juniors, Sam Malchar from Abilene Christian University and Erik Natusch from Lipscomb University; one sophomore, Cody Tillotson from Cisco Community College; and two freshmen, Scott Shimp from Henderson State University and Ryan Scott from University of Texas at Arlington.
            The Cane Cutters will have ten juniors on the team, with the rest being freshmen and sophomores." We are looking forward to our season this year with such an experienced group of players," says Head Coach Lonny Landry.
