Cane Cutters defeat Marshals 7-3

07/06/2016 10:41 PM -

Carlisle Koestler, out of Hinds Community College, pitched eight strong innings against the Texas Marshals and was able to pull out the 7-3 victory on Wednesday night at Fabacher Field for Acadiana.

Two of those three runs allowed by the Marshals were allowed by Koestler and the other one was allowed by Alabama’s Zac Rogers in the ninth.

Although the Cane Cutters were able to put up seven, it started off as a pitchers duel with only one hit allowed by either team through the first four innings of play.

Acadiana’s offense was able to get going in the third though, scoring a run, but leaving a couple men on base. The team matched that with two runs in the fourth.

However, Koestler continued to pitch at a very high level and only allowed a run in the fifth and one in the eighth. Acadiana picked up three insurance runs at the bottom of the ninth.

The Cane Cutters as a team totaled 10 hits on 34 at bats on the night, and Kyle Mendenhall led the team in RBI’s with two after hitting a line drive down the first base line to bring in Dylon Poncho and Jam Williams, both out of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The Cane Cutters will play game two of the two-game series tomorrow night at Fabacher Field at 7 p.m. Tomorrow is Thirsty Thursday, where fans can buy $1 beers all night.
