Cane Cutters rally late to top Generals, 4-3

07/17/2016 8:59 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters rallied from down 3-0 late in the game to comeback and beat the Victoria Generals by the final score of 4-3 at Riverside Stadium.

It was another pitcher's duel between the Southeastern commit John Badgett of the Cane Cutters and Dakota Mills of the Generals.

The two pitchers traded scoreless innings until the sixth inning when Victoria broke through. Badgett threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded which brought home the game's first run of the game. Pedro Barrios and Chace Sarchet followed with RBI sacrifice flies in succession off of Cutters reliever J.C. Keys to extend the Generals lead to 3-0.

Acadiana responded in the eighth when Dominic Bifano from Indiana State and Trey Jimmerson of Texas A&M drew consecutive walks with one out in the inning. One batter and a balk later, Kyle Mendenhall from OU drilled a two-run RBI single to make it a 3-2 Generals lead. Trenton Buchhorn from UT-Tyler rifled an RBI triple to score Mendenhall from first base and tie the game up at 3.

The Cutters would build off that as Jimmerson would knock in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly of his own to give Acadiana a 4-3 lead in the 9th inning.

Acadiana reliever Mackenzy Larsen from Southern Arkansas tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to get the win.

The Cane Cutters will be back in action at Fabacher Field starting on Wednesday night as they'll take on the Texas Marshals for a two-game set. Both games are scheduled for 7p.m. However, the 2016 TCL All-Star Game will be on Tuesday night where eight Cane Cutters will be in the contest including Cobie Vance from Alabama who will be the team representative for the Homerun Derby. The Derby will begin at 6:15p prior to the all-star contest.
