Cane Cutters Fall 4-3, Drop to 2-2 On Season

05/31/2017 10:20 PM -

The Texarkana Twins handed the Cane Cutters a 4-3 loss on Wednesday night, continuing the alternating pattern of wins and losses to open the season for the home team.

Brady Bell (Nichols State University) earned Player of the Game honors due to a 2-for-4 performance at the plate that included a run scored. The contest was Bell’s first game of the season after arriving earlier in the day following the conclusion of his collegiate season.

The majority of the scoring occurred early on, with the teams exchanging runs in the first inning. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the frame, the Cane Cutters evened the score via a Jonathan Artigues (Tulane) RBI single. The Twins would add runs in the second and third to take a 3-1 lead before a Gabe Montenegro (U. Southern Miss) sacrifice fly cut the lead to 3-2. The Twins would double their lead in the top of the seventh and took that 4-2 advantage into the bottom of the ninth, when the Cane Cutters put runners on the corners with one out. A throwing error by shortstop RJ Ruiz allowed Cain Castille (McNeese St) to score and bring Acadiana within one, but they would fail to score again.

Brady and the rest of the Cane Cutters hit the road for a four-game road trip starting Thursday in Victoria, Texas against the Generals!
