Cane Cutters Win 5th In A Row

06/07/2017 10:16 PM -

The Cane Cutters beat the Texarkana Twins 9-2 on Wednesday, pushing their win streak to 5 games.

Turner Francis (UL-Monroe) earned Player of the Game honors for his 2-for-5 performance that included a walk, 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. When asked about his day at the plate, Francis said “A multi-hit game was a nice confidence boost after a tough start to the season.” Starter Max Page (UT Tyler) earned the win in 5 innings pitched, with Ben Simpson (Easthill JC) and Brandon Duhon (Delgado CC) combining for the last four innings.

The Cane Cutters scored the first nine runs of the game, and stretched a 4-0 advantage to a 9-0 lead in the 5th when they loaded the bases with nobody out before breaking it open using their patience and heads-up baserunning rather than their bats. During the inning, the Cutters collected three walks and had three batters hit by a pitch to get themselves on and then took advantage of three wild pitches to score a total of five runs. A pair of Twins runs in the 8th inning finished the scoring, and were the first tallies the Cane Cutters pitching staff had allowed in 17 innings. Francis noted that “we were able to stay disciplined and take advantage of the pitches that they did put over the plate.”

Turner and the rest of the Cane Cutters return to action against the Twins tomorrow night at 7pm.
