Win Streak Ends At Six After 10th Inning Loss

06/09/2017 11:10 PM -

Despite an 8-7 loss on Friday night that ended a 6 game win streak, there were plenty of reasons to smile at Fabacher Field on Friday. Even with the defeat, Acadiana is just 1 game out of first place in the TCL and fans had the opportunity to show their appreciation for a variety of local businesses during “Like A Boss” night.

Gabe Montenegro (Southern Miss) earned Player of the Game honors due to a 2-for-5 night that included a double, 2 runs batted in, 2 runs scored and a walk. "I was glad I was able to help the team out, even though we weren't able to pull it out, but that's just baseball. We'll be back tomorrow and ready to scrap it out and come away with a win" Montenegro reflected after the game.

The Cane Cutters held a 7-2 lead heading into the eighth inning, with the offense being led by Montenegro, Turner Francis (UL Monroe) who contributed two RBI singles, and Gavin Bourgeios’ (ULL) three stolen bases. In the eighth, the Marshals pulled to within two after a pair of Cane Cutter errors and two walks drawn. The ninth saw them tie the game on a passed ball with two outs. In the bottom of the ninth Trey Morgan (Southeastern Louisiana) drew a leadoff walk, but the Cane Cutters failed to score and Fabacher Field saw its first extra inning action of the season. The top of the tenth was quite eventful, starting with a home run to left field that put the Marshals ahead 8-7. On the very next pitch following the homer, pitcher Richard Hebert (LSU Eunice) had a pitch get away from him and get behind the hitter, causing the dugouts to temporarily empty. Acadiana’s best chance to score in the bottom of the tenth was erased when Brandon Duhon (Delgado CC) was doubled off of first base following a Montenegro fly out to right.

Come cheer on Gabe and the rest of Cane Cutters as they look to get back in the win column on Saturday against the Generals!
