Acadiana Earns Run-Rule Victory

06/10/2017 10:30 PM -

Youngsville, LA (June 10, 2017)-The Cane Cutters bounced back from a chippy defeat in the opening game of the series with the Texas Marshals, winning 12-2 in seven innings on Saturday night.

Nathan Gabryszwski (Lamar) earned Player of the Game honors due to his 3-for-4 night that included a 2-run double. He finished with 3 runs scored, 3 runs batted in and 1 walk.

The Cutters jumped out to an early lead when Nathan Gabryszwski (Lamar) drove a 2-run double to the right-centerfield gap. Before the inning was over, they would add another to have a 3-0 lead after one. Texas got one back in the top of the second, but the Cane Cutters answered with a pair of their own, using aggressive baserunning to their advantage when Logan Bottrell (New Mexico St) scored on a shallow flyout and Trey Morgan (Southeastern Louisiana) got home on a wild pitch that travelled only a short distance from the plate, increasing the lead to 5-1. Morgan and Lege (Northwestern) would pick up RBI hit-by-pitches in the fifth and sixth, making the score 7-2. The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the seventh after the Cutters had scored five additional runs on RBI singles by Gabryszwski and Trenton Trosclair (Southeastern Louisiana), in addition to a run-scoring passed ball and 2-run error.

Nathan and the rest of the Cane Cutters will look to continue their winning ways on the road next week, and will return to Fabacher Field on Monday, June 19 at 7pm vs the Victoria Generals.
