Cutters Give Dads A Father’s Day Walk-off W

06/19/2017 9:13 PM -

With a 4-3 win over the Victoria Generals the Cane Cutters gained critical ground in a close race for a first-half automatic bid to the TCL playoffs. After Monday’s win Acadiana is now in control of the second and final playoff spot up for grabs before the All-Star Break.

The star on Monday night was Trey Morgan (Southeastern Louisiana) who earned Player of the Game honors for delivering the walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. He finished the contest 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and a steal. Cain Castille (McNeese) and Turner Francis (UL Monroe) also had big games for the Cane Cutters, finishing 2-for-3 with 2 runs and 2-for-3 with 2 walks, respectively.

The contest was a pitcher’s duel from the start, with the first run not coming until the fourth inning. Even then, it took a two out triple from Nathan Gabryszwski to put a runner in scoring position, and he would later score on a passed ball giving Acadiana a 1-0 lead. The advantage would be doubled an inning later when Francis singled to score Castille. He would score again in the bottom of the seventh on a Morgan RBI single set up by a Castille triple. Victoria would tie the game at three in the top of the ninth, setting up a dramatic finish. Logan Bottrell (New Mexico St) pinch-hit to start the bottom of the ninth and reached on a dropped third strike before taking second on a sacrifice bunt and moving to third on a groundout. He then scored the winning run on Morgan’s second RBI single of the night. Closer Emile Lege (Northwestern State) got credit for the win due to his work in the top of the ninth inning.
