07/02/2017 10:55 PM -

Acadiana enters the Texas Collegiate League All-Star Break with a record of 15 wins and 13 losses following a 12-6 victory on Sunday night.

Cain Castille (McNeese St) earned Player of the Game honors for his performance at the plate. He finished the game 3-for-5 with 3 runs batted in and a run scored. He and the rest of the Cane Cutters struck early, posting their third eight run inning of the series in the bottom of the first after falling behind 3-0 in the top of the inning. Castille contributed a 2-run single then, while Dan Lahare (ULL) recorded 2 hits and 2 runs batted in during that inning. The score would remain 8-3 Cane Cutters until the fifth, when Victoria pulled two back to cut the deficit to 8-5. Gabe Montenegro (Southern Miss) would add a sacrifice fly in the 7th before a 2-run single by Logan Bottrell (New Mexico St) and another RBI single by Castille pushed the lead to 12-5. Victoria would manage to score once in the top of the ninth, but Hunter Speer (Nichols St) was able to record the final three outs to secure the victory.

The Cane Cutters will send eight representatives to the TCL All-Star Game, which will be played this Wednesday, July 5th in Bryan, Texas before returning to league action next Sunday, July 9th against the Brazos Valley Bombers at 7pm here at Fabacher Field.
