Cane Cutters Stay Hot Despite Week Off

07/09/2017 10:20 PM -

Acadiana started off the second half of the TCL season with an 8-2 victory over the Brazos Valley Bombers on Sunday night in their first game in over a week.

Trenton Trosclair (Southeastern Louisiana) earned Player of the Game honors for his 2-for-4 performance at the plate in addition to a play worthy of SportCenter’s Top 10 in right field. At the dish, he delivered two doubles and a run scored. The second double sparked Acadiana’s most prolific scoring inning of the contest that ended up being the difference in the victory.

The Cane Cutters struck first, when Daniel Lahare (ULL) stepped up with the bases loaded and nobody out in the third and delivered a two run single. Acadiana tried to stretch the lead with a double steal that saw Lahare swipe second, but Gabe Montenegro (Southern Miss) was gunned down at home to keep the score 2-0. A pair of Brazos Valley runs in the top of the fifth tied the game at two a piece, until the Cane Cutters struck again in the seventh. Troscalir led off the inning by stretching a single into a double and then taking third on a passed ball before scoring on a Cain Castille (McNeese) RBI single. The Cane Cutters would chase the Bombers starter that inning, en route to scoring four more and taking a 7-2 lead into the eighth. A Montenegro RBI single in the bottom of the frame would round out the scoring before Justin Damary (Minot St) threw a scoreless ninth to give Hayden Marze (Mississippi St) the win.

Come cheer on Trenton and the rest of Cane Cutters as they look to continue their winning ways against the Bombers!
